Meg Goldberg is a sophomore finance major from Ann Arbor, MI.  Last semester Meg served as the project manager for OY-L, a skincare brand that prioritizes natural ingredients to promote healthy skin. OY-L’s motto is “beauty without secrets” which is emphasized through the company’s ethical and sustainable operations.

This team was tasked with a multidimensional charge including a social media, competitor, and SEO analysis on behalf of OY-L. This project was fast-paced with tasks ranging from collecting data via surveys and in-depth interviews to creating mood boards that represented the company’s brand and vision for the future. The team focused on developing a high-quality solution to fit OY-L’s needs and that served as a flexible approach to the ever-changing skincare industry.

After a successful engagement last semester Meg shared some of her thoughts regarding her experience on the OY-L engagement:

What was your biggest challenge that you had to overcome? The biggest challenge I had to overcome was finding the right balance between being a friend, leader, mentor, and listener, all of which are crucial in successful project management.

What was your favorite/most rewarding part about the project? This project was very rewarding, especially having the opportunity to work alongside an all-female team for the first time in EBC’s history. I enjoyed collaborating with women who constantly inspired me as a consultant, and a client who motivated me to be a pioneer within my industry, just as she did.

What did you learn as a project manager? As a project manager, I learned the importance of transparent and effective communication while operating in a virtual environment.

How do you hope EBC's work will help this company? I hope that EBC’s work will help OY-L expand its outreach to potential consumers through augmenting its existing, organic social media following.

Is there anything you are excited to see from this company in the future? I am looking forward to seeing OY-L adopt specific practices that promote growth as a company, with innumerable consumers seeing the potential that EBC and my team already have.

What advice would you give to future project managers? To future project managers, my advice would be to realize the impact you have the ability to make and explore how you can optimize that with the help of your team and client.
